Decatur police said crimes caught on business surveillance videos helped investigators catch two crooks this week.

Police charged William Howard Spears, 48, of 3438 Gordon Terry Parkway, Lot No. 21, with second-degree theft on Monday.

Investigator Kirk Arrington said security video from Peo-ples Bank, 1736 Sixth Ave. S.E., led investigators to suspect Spears stole cash a man left on a counter at the bank Jan. 13.

The victim walked out of the bank, realized he'd forgotten to take the $1,086 cash with him and returned to find it had vanished.

Spears was the only other customer in the bank at the time, said Lt. Chris Mathews, a police spokesman.

Morgan County Jail released Spears on Monday on $750 bond.

Also, a security tape at Wal-Mart caught a woman in the act of using another woman's credit card illegally Jan. 22, said Detective Herb Lundy, a financial crime investigator.

On Tuesday, Decatur police arrested the suspect, Beverly Carol Arnold, 43, of 1516 Oak Lea Road S.W., on a warrant charging her with fraudulent use of a credit card.

Morgan County Jail released her Tuesday on $750 bond.
