Anti-terror CCTV cameras for buses (NSW)

Screens which show passengers in real-time what is being recorded will also be fitted.

The Government last week sealed the $25 million deal for the high-resolution CCTV system in the hope it will deter crime and help prevent terrorism, News Limited newspapers reported.

The new system will replace the analogue cameras previously in place on some buses.

The digital footage is very clear, which will make it much easier for police to identify suspects.

The new system is also capable of feeding the footage to an external site, although the Government said it had no plans to do this.

State Transit began trialling the cameras in 10 buses in Sydney's eastern suburbs last year.

The project has been awarded to Johnson Controls Australia, which will install the cameras into 1900 buses in Sydney and Newcastle.
