Wellington Shire Council is to revisit the possibility of a closed circuit television system in the Wellington central business district (CBD).

This week the council passed several resolutions to address residents' concerns about crime, which has included break-ins and window damage in Wellington's main street.

As well working to facilitate the efforts of the Aboriginal night patrols in town, the council will lobby for a 24-hour police station, even though the Orana police commander, Stuart Smith, has told it he could not commit to that.

Mayor Anne Jones says senior staff will also prepare a report on the effectiveness and costs of surveillance cameras, since they were last considered some time ago.

"Because it's not something that just costs a couple of thousand dollars, we're most probably talking $500,000 plus and you're also talking the ongoing costs in relation to maintaining them," she said.

Councillor Jones says staff will look at what has been happening with CBD cameras in Orange and Dubbo and report back to council at the next ordinary meeting.
