Vandal-hit businessman to put up own spy camera

A FED-UP businessman is spending £1,000 on CCTV equipment outside his home after he was terrorised by vandals.
Tony Barnett decided to make the expensive move after his work van was attacked twice in three weeks, costing him hundreds of pounds in repairs.

On the first occasion, yobs caved in his bonnet and roof by jumping up and down on the Vauxhall Vivaro van.

The van, which he uses to run Barnett Installation Services, was later scratched with a key during a vandalism spree that left more than a dozen vehicles with damage to their paintwork.

Police officers called at Mr Barnett’s home in New Road, Chatteris, to inspect the damage, but he believes there is little they can do.

He said: “We don’t have CCTV here, so there is little chance the culprits will be caught.

“It is getting beyond a joke. every time this happens it is costing me time and money to put right.”

Now Mr Barnett is planning to install state-of-the-art cameras outside his home in a bid to catch the offenders.

He said: “It is going to cost me about £1,000 to do it, but I can’t see any other way.

“It is madness. The people who are doing this don’t seem to realise the problems they are causing."

He said a neighbour had also been targeted, with vandals ripping off his vehicle wing mirrors on several occasions.

“He had it broken one night, repaired it the next day, and then that night it was pulled off again."

“It is annoying, and people can't afford to keep paying for repairs,” said Mr Barnett.

A police spokesman said officers were investigating the problem.
