School Board to install cameras in school buses

“It’s a win, win situation,” that’s how Bossier Parish School Board District 1 member Dr. Jack, Raley described the board’s approval of purchasing and installing security cameras in 50 of the district’s 250 buses.


The board agreed to spend $35,000 on the installation cameras on 50 buses at a cost of $700 per bus and will have them installed sometime after January  8. Of the 250 buses, only 35 currently have the security cameras, however, John Reser, supervisor of transportation for the school system, said he would someday like to have security cameras on all of the school buses.

Reser explained that it would first be necessary to identify the buses with “difficulties,” and get the cameras installed in them at a rate of around four per day. He went on to say that the cameras would be running during the time it takes to run a route and continue for 10 minutes even after the bus is turned off.

Board members agreed that the cameras would act as a deterrent to bad behavior on the buses.
